 The first piece, authored by Selma James, wife of the noted Afro-Carribean historian, CLR James,  reflected an Old Left disdain for the New Left position.  She is criticial of participants “in women’s liberation” and points instead to the women she believes “are women’s liberation,” meaning working class women.   She rejects the notion of a consciousness based on sex  “the political consciousness of women is … irrelevant.
